A higher-order plate theory for the analysis of vibrations of thick orthotropic laminates

Abstract In this contribution, flexural vibrations of linear elastic laminates composed thick orthotropic layers, such as cross-laminated timber, are addressed. For efficient computation, an equivalent single-layer plate theory with eight kinematic degrees freedom is derived, both in terms equations motion at the continuum level and a finite element representation. The validity demonstrated by comparing natural frequencies simply supported over wide frequency range for which analytical solution available. Furthermore, influence individual material properties on accuracy investigated, demonstrating its broad applicability. orientation examined comparative simulations. It shown that, cross-ply laminates, valid elements oriented any angle to principal axes.
